Out and About Town 7/1

Jul 01 2011 by Emily Matthews

It’s 4th of July weekend and it’s going to be a scorcher! Good thing there are plenty of bodies or water to keep us cool. Mix that with a little laughter, some music and a fireworks show or two and you’ve got the makings of a perfect three-day weekend:

1. Broadway comedy hit, The Little Dog Laughed, will be staged at The City Theatre Friday-Sunday. Enjoy a hilarious look at one man’s quest to become a Hollywood star. Click here for more info.

2. What does it take to be a Dragon Boat Paddler? Come find out Saturday at Lady Bird Lake where you can try out this internationally popular activity under the guidance of trained paddlers. For the details, click here.

3. If you want to see fireworks on the Fourth of July, you’ll have to head out of town since Austin has cancelled their show. Most other area shows have also been cancelled due to the drought. We suggest heading up to Georgetown to see their display in San Gabriel Park. Click here to learn more.

4. There’s always music in the Live Music Capital of the World. This week we recommend Priory at The Parish on Friday, Kris Kimura at Highball for Sunday brunch, and Glitch Mob at La Zona Rosa next Thursday. Foster the People’s show at Emo’s on Saturday is sold out, but you can catch them at Waterloo Records Saturday at 5:30. You can also see Foster the People at Stubb’s late night on Saturday for an aftershow DJ set.

Special thanks to Mission Mortgage for the info.!
